Another year, another Samsung flagship rumor cycle, and this time the internet's favorite complaint might finally get addressed.
A fresh leak out of the Korean supply chain suggests the Galaxy S26 Ultra will ship with 65W wired charging, up from the 45W that's been stuck on Samsung's top phones like a bad software update since 2022.
For the non-nerds: 45W gets you from zero to about 70 percent in half an hour.
It's also what $400 midrange phones from brands you've never heard of have been doing for three years while Samsung charged $1,300 and told you to be patient.
The leak, reportedly from a charger certification filing, points to a new 65W brick and a beefier battery cell.
If accurate, this is Samsung finally admitting that "fast charging" shouldn't be the exclusive property of Chinese phone makers and whatever OnePlus is doing this week.
But here's where my inner cynic kicks in.
Samsung has a long, proud history of leaking a spec and then shipping something slightly worse.
Remember when the S22 Ultra was supposed to have a 45W charger in the box?
Remember when the "revolutionary" camera sensor turned out to be a software crop?
The company's marketing department runs on hope and renders.
To be fair, the S26 Ultra isn't all about watts.
Rumors also point to a new 200MP main sensor with better low-light processing, a tiled display that reduces power draw, and a slightly slimmer titanium frame.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 for Galaxy is basically a lock, because Qualcomm and Samsung are attached at the hip at this point.
The real question is whether any of this matters to actual humans.
Most people charge their phone overnight.
A 65W charger only helps if you're the kind of person who forgets to plug in and then panics at brunch.
They're the ones hogging the airport outlet with a 6-foot cable and a look of quiet desperation.
What Samsung is really doing here is playing defense.
Google's Pixel 10 is nipping at its heels, OnePlus keeps undercutting on price, and Apple finally put a decent camera on the base iPhone.
Samsung can't just coast on a stylus and a zoom lens that turns the moon into a blurry potato anymore.
It needs a spec sheet that doesn't make reviewers sigh.
The launch window is probably January or February 2026, which means we have months of leaks, fake renders, and "exclusive" reports from people who definitely don't work for Samsung.
Samsung spent years telling us 45W was plenty while competitors lapped it.
If the S26 Ultra actually ships with this charger in the box and doesn't throttle after five minutes, I'll eat my words.
