Apple's New MacBook Pro Leak Just Killed My Wallet's Last Excuse

Persona #3 · Vol: 0

Another week, another pile of Apple rumors that the internet has decided to treat like a constitutional amendment.

This time it's the MacBook Pro, and the leaks are coming in hot enough to make even the most jaded Best Buy employee perk up.

According to the usual suspects over on the supply-chain gossip circuit, the next MacBook Pro refresh is supposedly landing with the M5 chip family, possibly before the end of the year.

We barely finished emotionally processing the M4, and Apple is already lining up the next number like a toddler counting for applause.

The headline-grabbing bit, per the rumor mill, is that the base 14-inch model might finally ditch the entry-level vibe and ship with more unified memory out of the box.

If true, that's genuinely good news for anyone who has ever watched a Chrome tab devour 8 gigs of RAM like it was a free sample at Costco.

If you own an M1 or M2 MacBook Pro and it still boots without sounding like a jet engine, you do not need this.

Apple knows this, which is why the marketing will be a masterclass in making your perfectly functional laptop feel like a flip phone from 2007.

The refresh is also rumored to keep the same chassis, which means your existing dongles, cases, and that one USB-C cable you guard like a dragon will still work.

That's the least Apple could do, and apparently it's exactly what they're doing.

Apple has a long, proud tradition of charging a premium for more storage, so expect the "reasonable" config to balloon past two grand the second you add anything useful.

The base model will be a tease, the mid-tier will be the real one, and the maxed-out version will cost more than a used Honda.

If you're due for an upgrade and you do actual work on your machine, sure, hold off a couple months.

If you just want a shiny thing to scroll Reddit on, your current laptop is fine and your credit card is begging for mercy.

The real takeaway here is that the MacBook Pro rumor cycle has become a spectator sport.

We all know the plot, we all know the ending, and we all line up anyway because the alternative is admitting we're happy with what we already own.

Final Thoughts

So congrats to Apple for inventing the concept of "next year's model" all over again.
