That $200 Webcam Won't Fix Your Face, But It Gets Close

Persona #3 ยท Vol: 0

Logitech's new MX Brio Ultra claims to be the webcam that finally makes you look like a functioning adult on Zoom.

It shoots 4K, has a fancy sensor, and costs as much as a decent pair of running shoes.

Naturally, I bought one, because my laptop's built-in camera makes me look like a hostage video from 2009.

Here's the thing about 4K webcams: nobody you're talking to actually needs 4K.

Your boss on a Tuesday standup does not require four times the pixels to watch you nod blankly while muted.

Most video calls compress the feed anyway, so all that resolution gets chewed up and spit out as a slightly less blurry version of your tired face.

It's the tech equivalent of buying a monster truck to get groceries.

That said, the Brio does fix the two things that actually matter: lighting and autofocus.

The larger sensor grabs way more light, so you stop looking like a silhouette in a cave.

The autofocus snaps onto your face and stays there instead of hunting around like it's searching for the remote.

My coworkers noticed immediately, mostly by asking if I'd finally bought a lamp.

Setup is basically plug-and-play, which is the highest praise I can give consumer tech.

The magnetic mount is clever, the privacy shutter is a nice touch for anyone who's paranoid about being watched (you should be), and the software lets you tweak exposure without a film degree.

It works with Windows, Mac, and even Linux if you enjoy suffering.

Two hundred bucks is real money for something that only improves a fake meeting where everyone's secretly answering emails.

If you stream, teach, or do client calls all day, it earns its keep.

If you hop on Zoom twice a week to say "sounds good, thanks," your laptop camera is fine and you should spend the money on literally anything else.

It won't fix bad lighting, a messy background, or the fact that you scheduled a 7 a.m. call.

But it will make you look like you tried, which is honestly 90% of professional life. **The Verdict** Buy it if your face is your paycheck.

Skip it if you're just another pixelated head in the grid.

Final Thoughts

And maybe clean your desk before the next call, because 4K shows everything.
