Nvidia's RTX 5090 Costs More Than Your Car — nvidia rtx 5090…
Persona #3 · Vol: 10000
Well, folks, gather 'round the digital campfire, because NVIDIA just dropped the RTX 5090, and if you listen closely, you can hear the collective sound of a million wallets crying out in terror. The Green Goblin of graphics has done it again, unveiling a GPU that costs roughly the same as a decent used Honda Civic, all so you can render puddles in 8K at 240 frames per second. Priorities, am I right?
Let’s get the specs out of the way, because that’s what the comment section will inevitably devolve into anyway. We’re talking about the Blackwell architecture, a staggering 32GB of GDDR7 memory, and a power draw that could probably jumpstart a small nation. NVIDIA claims it’s up to 2x faster than the 4090 in ray-traced workloads. Translation: your character’s sweat glands will now have individual ray-traced reflections. Groundbreaking stuff.
The price? A cool $1,999. For the Founders Edition. If you want a third-party card with a cooler that looks like a stealth bomber and RGB lighting that syncs with your smart fridge, you’re looking at a cool $2,500. Plus tax. Plus a new power supply, because your current 850W unit just filed for divorce. And possibly a new case, because this thing is the size of a toaster oven from 1998.
But hey, think of the value! You’ll finally be able to run *Cyberpunk 2077* with path tracing on, at native 4K, without DLSS. That’s a real thing you can do now, for the low, low price of a mortgage payment. You’ll be able to see every single pore on Keanu Reeves’ digital face as he tells you you’re breathtaking. That’s worth skipping a few meals, right? Right?
Of course, the real kicker is the AI nonsense. NVIDIA is pushing this card hard for “AI enthusiasts” and “content creators.” Because nothing says “I’m a serious professional” like spending two grand to generate AI waifus in real-time. The card is apparently a beast for local LLMs, which is great news for the three guys who aren’t just using ChatGPT like the rest of us plebs. You can now run a chatbot that’s slightly worse than a free web app, but hey, at least it’s *your* chatbot. And it’s privately judging you.
The power connector is, predictably, a new standard. It’s called the “12V-2x6” and it’s definitely, absolutely, 100% not going to melt this time. We promise. NVIDIA even put a little light on it to tell you if it’s plugged in wrong, because apparently, we’re all toddlers who can’t be trusted with a simple cable. It’s a $2,000 card that needs a nightlight. Beautiful.
Meanwhile, the rest of the PC gaming world is looking at their 3080s and 4070s and wondering if they really need to sell a kidney for a 15% frame rate bump in a game they’ll play for two weeks. The answer, of course, is no. But that won’t stop thousands of people from smashing that pre-order button the second it goes live, only to complain about the price on Reddit five minutes later. It’s a time-honored tradition.
So, should you buy the RTX 5090? If you have to ask, you can’t afford it. If you can afford it, you probably already have one on order and a custom water block on the way. For the rest of us, we’ll just watch the benchmark videos, nod appreciatively at the pretty numbers, and go back to enjoying our games at a perfectly acceptable 1440p. It’s a great card for people who have more money than sense, and a hilarious spectacle for the rest of us.
**The Verdict:** NVIDIA has once again proven that the only thing faster than their hardware is the rate at which they can empty your bank account. It’s a magnificent, absurd, power-hungry monster that 99% of
